Morphophonem (Morpho-Phonem; kurz: Morphonem) wurde als Begriff von Nikolai Sergejewitsch Trubetzkoy eingeführt, um den regelmÀßigen Wechsel zwischen den Formen (signifiants) von Allomorphen darzustellen, die ein und dasselbe Morphem reprÀsentieren.

Ein Beispiel fΓΌr ein Morphophonem findet man bei dem deutschen Wort β€žKindβ€œ mit dem regelmÀßigen Wechsel zwischen den Allomorphen [kΔ±nt] und [kΔ±nd]-, der darin besteht, dass aufgrund der AuslautverhΓ€rtung im Wortauslaut stimmloses [t] (β€žKindβ€œ), vor Vokal aber stimmhaftes [d] (β€žKindesβ€œ) gewΓ€hlt wird. FΓΌr diesen Wechsel wurde spΓ€ter ein passender Großbuchstabe als Symbol in die phonologische Darstellung des Wortes eingesetzt, so dass die Form /kΔ±nD/ fΓΌr beide Allomorphe steht.

Troubetzkoy, dessen Beitrag das PhΓ€nomen anhand der slawischen Sprachen behandelte und dafΓΌr eine eigene Sprachbeschreibungsebene Morphophonologie bzw. Morphonologie vorsah, hΓ€tte fΓΌr FΓ€lle wie /kΔ±nD/ die Notation β€žt : dβ€œ fΓΌr das Morphophonem gewΓ€hlt.
